                     Who is MYC?

My name is Marlene Yadira Campos, I am 24 years old (11/02/89). I am Mexican  American “Chicana”, Both of my Parents are from a town called San Juan De Los Lagos located in Jalisco, Mexico and currently living in Richmond, California were I was born and raised with my Family of 7 including myself. At a young age, I was into Fashion and when I say fashion I mean everything there is about Fashion, I was such a girly girl who always wanted my hair a certain way and wanted the latest accessories and clothing, including my Barbie’s! I then started to look at my Barbie’s as my mini models you can say? Sounds weird, but it’s true. I started to do their hair and dressed them up cute and eventually started making their clothes out of anything I could find. I would get into so much trouble, when I was young I would start cutting off unused clothing, Clothes that my Mother would bag up so she can donate it to the less fortunate or bring with her to Mexico to give to my family out there. I first used the unused clothing for my Barbie’s and would tie it and place an accessory to the knot to “hide” the knot from being shown only because I did not know how to sew. Then, curious little Marlene always wondered how were my clothes being fixed? If I would play outside and rip the area of my knee of my pants, how was that rip sewn to together?  how was my clothing getting smaller to my size when originally they were big, did they shrink? Did my mother buy me the same exact pants? It all started when I saw my mom sewing my pants or dresses with a needle when they were too big or if there was a tear. I was so intrigued when I would see her doing it an eventually I went into her “Needle Yarn Box” borrowed the items I saw her using and taught myself, all from observing my mother at the age of 6. I sewed things secretly because I knew my mother would not like the idea of me handling scissors and needles and also cutting off good clothing which in my head I said I would turn it into something that I thought was going to become the best skirt or dress, EVER then it was originally. Eventually my secretly sewing days were over, she saw me doing it and was very upset and then asked me how and when and who taught me. I then explained to her everything and funny thing is in the end she was impressed and didn’t mind anymore instead, she would tell me here’s more clothing you can do something with it and even encouraged me and bought me my own little kit of sewing necessities for myself.  As I was getting older, designing clothes was something I put on the side because my mother had bought me a jewelry kit case which resulted in me doing my own jewelry from necklaces to bracelets. I was now making my own jewelry at the age of 10 and loved it! Only because I was able to put any color I wanted and match it with whatever I was wearing. The more I was getting older the more I realized I was too into Fashion.

In 2008, I was 18 and had decided to make my own clothing line which was named “Only My Kind”. I cannot take all the credit from getting to where I am now because I was influenced by a “boy” who at the moment was my boyfriend.  He told me I should make my dreams come true and told me he would help me through it all and thought to myself what do I have to lose?  Let me find out if anyone would actually be interested in purchasing my designs. I then was promoting my line, along with my boyfriend who was also a designer and selling shirts online with his designs. He put my designs on his online store and that’s where he and I being these young kids we were promoting like crazy back when Myspace was a hit. I somehow came a across a girl who was a singer named Devin but went by “Dev” who lived in Manteca, California. I told her I’d promote her music if she did too wearing my designs. Sure enough she did and as did I, and let’s just say years passed and now “Dev” is a worldwide famous singer. You have no idea how that made me feel, that the girl who started from the bottom like my self is now on top and is happily engaged and has a baby girl. But let’s rewind a bit, I did do my clothing line and never thought I’d get far and never considered registering/trademarking my brand, YET! But thanks to Dev and my boy fried at the time I became this needed wanting more shirts designer which sadly I failed and took a break from my clothing line, only so that I can Trademark my line in which I did and became officially registered on 09/11/2012. It took me about a year and 9 months of long HARD WORD and DEDICATION.  During that break period of my clothing line before it was in the process, I was going to Beauty school because that had become another interest of mine; Hair, Make-Up, and Nails (Cosmetology). I loved the way my sister would style her hair and make-up differently and I basically became her Guinea pig, which I did not mine at all. Because of her, I became interested in beauty which somehow relates into Fashion if you really think about it. I went to beauty school and graduated within 10 months being a Full-Time student in 2009, all because I wanted the title of a cosmetologist.  I got my Cosmetology License in 2009 worked at different salons for 3 years and got “Only My Kind” registered in 2012, and have been working on new designs and now working at a dental office which recently became the office manager last year, 2013.

At the moment I am still doing hair on the side and as well as working on new designs. The reasons why I do hair, make-up, and nails is because I always get compliments on it, my hair, is my-everything. I use to have it different every month, even got “Best Hair” in High school but now that I am older I am sticking to being simpler and natural compared to my past were I would have colorful extensions or just something different compared to other girls. “Only My Kind” clothing initially came from myself image which included my style and the way I would have my hair or my clothes. A few people know my style and can probably tell you that I always dress up or always looking my best even at small events and most of the time friends or sisters go in my closet to borrow something from my “closet mall” so they call it, I love clothes what can I say. I do love to shop and usually do it online only when it comes to clothing because I never wanted to purchase something in my area that I know someone could possibly be wearing the same as myself, don’t want to be someone’s twin, I want to be someone inspiration on how to dress. When it comes to shoes, I absolutely love heels. My favorite brand for heels will always be Steve Madden and as for Tennis Shoes would have to be Nike, those can be very stylish, comfortable, and different, which is why I wear them. When I do my Make-up I can be very open to any brand, from drug stores to Sephora, Ulta, Bare-Essentials and even random ones online, which sometimes tend to be even better than good brands. I’ve been influenced to start my own blog about Fashion/Beauty from watching and following certain Gurus online.  I like the idea that they do what they love and want to show other people which is something I personally think it’s a great idea and now am going to do just that for myself since I’m constantly being asked where I buy certain things, and how did I do my hair or makeup including tips/tricks that make it easier for all hair types. I hope my blogs helps and influences you all and know that there is someone like myself and other Gurus who will show you step by step how to dress and have your hair looking fabulous without going broke!
